Today's topic is pitching an idea or startup. What key points do you need to hit? Pitching your startup or idea takes a bit of practice. Paid and Free Software to Consider - EMP008

Starting a business or side-hustle comes with a lot of not-so-fun tasks. You don’t just get to invent a product, but you’ve got to build the foundation. A website, social media content, editing audio footage, and more requires software and online tools. I’ll walk you through my go-to list and make it super simple for you. Paid is usually better, but there’s a lot of great stuff out there that’s completely free as well. Tools I recommend checking out: Websites/Sales Funnels WordPress - build websites (free and paid plans) ClickFunnels - build sales funnels (14 day trial, then $97/month) Email Automation MailChimp - create automated email campaigns (free until you have more than 2,000 subscribers or send more than 12,000 emails a month) Graphic Design Unsplash - free stock photos to use (give credit to photographers if you like to help them out) Canva - graphic design for dummies. Mostly free, but you can pay for a few premium templates or graphics. Screen Recording Software Open Broadcaster Software - free software to record your screen for tutorials or videos Camtasia / ScreenFlow - paid screen recording software with great reviews Video Editing Software Windows Movie Maker - free editing for Windows (no longer supported) iMovie - free video editing for Macs GoPro Studio - free GoPro footage editing software Royalty-Free Music NoCopyrightSounds Incompetech Feel free to reach out with questions or comments at chrisbello.com and remember, less dreaming, more doing.

The Importance Of Mentors and Network - EMP009

Your mom was right. Who you hang out with tends to define you. If you're hanging out with people who are okay with the status quo and don't have drive to do more, they'll pull you down to their level. If you want to level up, you need to elevate your peers.  Find mentors who have been there and done that, have a proven track record, and are willing to show you the ropes or even just grab a cup of coffee. This episode dives into the importance of mentors and network.   Feel free to reach out with questions or comments at chrisbello.com and remember, less dreaming, more doing.

Market Testing And Feedback - EMP010

Today’s focus will be on market validation, testing, and feedback. Different people look for different types of things in products or services, and you can’t make everyone happy. I’ll review how to segment your target customers, identify various needs, and take that information into account when getting feedback. Feel free to reach out with questions or comments at chrisbello.com and remember, less dreaming, more doing.

New Year Resolutions - EMP011

Happy New Year! I don't really believe in "New Year Resolutions" and explain why in this episode. It's important to set and achieve goals constantly throughout each year, but setting huge goals for an entire year without breaking them into smaller ones is a recipe for failure.  Feel free to reach out with questions or comments at chrisbello.com and remember, less dreaming, more doing.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki - EMP013

Today we’re going to run over a book I really enjoyed called Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. Kiyosaki helps break down some financial knowledge into easy to understand stories and concepts. Feel free to reach out with questions or comments at chrisbello.com and remember, less dreaming, more doing.

The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich - EMP014

Tim Ferriss’ book, The Four-Hour Workweek is a must read. The sub-heading is: “Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich.” The book was originally published in 2007, and while a lot of the recommended sites and productivity tips are not always “current” with the times, there are so many golden nuggets throughout. The “new rich” is being able to escape the 9-5, live anywhere, and do the things you want to do. Click here to purchase it on Amazon today. For those looking to "travel hack" like Tim mentions and get a credit card with lots of perks, check out my two card system: Chase Sapphire - First year free, then $95 annual fee (this is more than paid back in flights and points) 2X Points on Travel and Dining No foreign transaction fees 24/7 Customer Service Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver And more Chase Freedom - No annual fee and 5% back on categories each quarter of the year 5% cash back on up to $1500 in combined purchases each quarter in various categories. Q118 offers cash back on gas station purchases, internet/cable phone services, and Chase/Android/Apple/Samsung Pay. You can combine points from both Chase cards to travel. I used all my points on my trip to Asia in May 2017 and am already back up to $531 that I can use towards travel. I can get cash back as well, but the points are worth more when you use them to travel, which I love doing. The Magic Of Thinking Big - EMP018

The Magic of Thinking Big is one of the first books I listened to on Audible when I started getting into this “mindset shift.” I’ve got to credit my friend Manny Atilano for introducing me to Audible as well as this type of thinking. He had a huge collection of books and helped get me started with a few he recommended. We’d go to Starbucks to work and “get on the grind” as we would call it. Those early days would evolve from just brainstorming business ideas to now having my website, blog, podcast, book on Amazon, and course on reselling. Grab your copy on Amazon or take a listen on Audible.  Feel free to reach out with questions or comments at chrisbello.com and remember, less dreaming, more doing.

The Dip - EMP019

The interesting thing about The Dip is that it goes against what many people advise. You often hear that you should “never quit,” but that is not the case with this book. Seth thinks that sometimes, you should quit, and refocus on something that makes sense. I guess in a sense it’s basically like pivoting. Seth says you should quit often, so it frees up space and time to do the other things that you should stick with. Get your copy on Amazon here today to learn whether you should quit something or stick it out.  Feel free to reach out with questions or comments at chrisbello.com and remember, less dreaming, more doing.

Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap...and Others Don't - EMP020

Let’s talk about Jim Collins’ book, Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap… and Others Don’t. Collins has a huge task in this book of identifying factors and variables that allow a small fraction of companies to make the transition from merely good to truly great. Great suggests “better than average.” It’s defined according to several metrics such as financial performance exceeding market average. Collins and his research team identified a handful of companies that fulfilled their predetermined criteria for greatness. These were then analyzed and compared. Awaken the Giant Within - EMP021

Tony offers several lessons to a happier life. First, associate bad habits with pain and good ones with pleasure. Second, change the words you use to transform how you feel and deal with problems. How I Built This (With Guy Raz) - EMP023

How I Built This is by far one of my favorite podcasts I've stumbled on. Guy interviews various entrepreneurs and shares their stories. They aren't just any entrepreneurs, by the way, they are pretty successful ones that started companies that most of us are familiar with. A few entrepreneurs interviewed on this show include Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx, and James Dyson, founder of Dyson vacuums and other products. In this episode, I dive into detail on one interview in particular of Richard Branson of the Virgin companies. Spoiler alert - I cover a lot of what the actual episode covers, but at a quicker pace.  Feel free to reach out with questions or comments at chrisbello.com and remember, less dreaming, more doing.

Side-Hustle School posts an episode every single day. Today, April 2, is episode #457. I thought it would be cool to jot some notes down on that episode for you guys and hopefully get you to go and give the podcast a listen. I personally have listened to every episode from the beginning. There’s various lessons you can take from each side-hustle and apply to your own business or life. If you don’t have a side-hustle yet, this show may spark some ideas. Feel free to reach out with questions or comments at chrisbello.com and remember, less dreaming, more doing.

Today we are covering The Pitch hosted by Josh Muccio from Gimlet Media. This show covers real entrepreneurs pitching to real investors. It’s like an audio version of Shark Tank. It delivers on the high-stakes promise of a live pitch without shying away from nitty gritty details of what happens after everyone shakes hands and walks out of the room. I’ll be running through the highlights of the first episode so you can see what it’s all about. The episode is 36 minutes long, so I’ll give you the 30,000 foot version. The MFCEO Project (Andy Frisella) - EMP027

To be completely honest, I didn’t like the MFCEO Project at first when I gave it a shot. However, it has definitely grown on me and I look forward to hearing it now.  I will cover a recent episode I heard that was actually only 14 minutes in length. This episode is called the 4 Steps to a Perfect Day Every Day, released April 11. Andy says the purpose of this podcast is to make you the MFCEO as well. You don’t have to be a business owner either. You can be a regular person and be the MFCEO of you. Again, I’m keeping this show clean but, MF in MFCEO stands for mother effin CEO in case you were confused. Feel free to reach out with questions or comments at chrisbello.com and remember, less dreaming, more doing.

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with - EMP049

Stop saying the phrase “could have done” - EMP052

Today I want to talk about the phrase "could have done" and why I really hate hearing those three words in that order.  Instead of thinking "I could’ve done this or that," ask yourself "what can I do in the future to do this better? How can I prevent a certain problem from happening again? How can I improve my situation?" Asking yourself what you could have done gives you feelings of regret and probably brings up negative emotions. When you look at what you can do in the future, you invoke feelings of hope and positivity. You can't change the past. But you can act in the present to change your life today and shape your future.  Less Dreaming, More Doing. Contact me directly or check out my blog at chrisbello.com.

Where to begin: tips for new or aspiring entrepreneurs - EMP055

Today I want to share some tips for new or aspiring entrepreneurs. I also dive into my own story so that you can avoid spinning your wheels or going down rabbit holes of distraction.  My main 3 tips are:  1. Get very focused and define what you want to do. What's the end goal? 2. Set huge goals in the area you choose. Know what numbers you need to hit. What does success look like? Take time to define that. 3. Surround yourself with mentors and doers in your space. Mimic them; don't try to reinvent the wheel. They've already made and learned from mistakes that you will likely face if you go it alone. Tips to improve your presentation and communication skills - EMP091

In this episode, I share a few key tips to improve your communication and presentation skills.  Perhaps the most important thing you can do is use tonality and vocal variety in your voice. If you have a monotone voice, your message can get lost as you won't engage or interest your audience.  You can have the best message or information in the world, but if you fail to present it in a way that captures attention, don't count on there being any retention.  CHECK OUT MY RECOMMENDED RESOURCES http://www.chrisbello.com/resources READ THE BLOG POST http://www.chrisbello.com/one-life-no-regrets SUBSCRIBE TO MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCecn7bkCgNHkrjvMo6rThuw?view_as=subscriber FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM http://www.instagram.com/chrisbello09

In this week's episode, I reflect on my progress and challenges in 2019. Commit first, then act - EMP130

Today I talk about a trick to make sure you take action. You commit. Once you tell people you are going to do something (especially if you are partnering with someone on something like hosting an event), it becomes set in stone.  From there, you have to perform. Set a deadline, sign up for the course, book a venue to host an event, etc. Once you commit, you then will have to act to honor that commitment.  This episode is brought to you by my free guide on Productivity Hacks. In this episode, I share some tips and things I've learned after podcasting for nearly 2.5 years and how I've grown it to nearly 40,000+ downloads a month.  I have evolved from heavily relying on notes and speaking in monotone to not needing any notes and being able to speak fairly eloquently if I can say so myself.   Podcasting has helped me level up in so many areas as well as connect with some incredible people across the globe.  My current podcasting set up: Logitech C290 webcam: https://amzn.to/2TQrlbc Blue Yeti USB Mic: https://amzn.to/33mF7FB Dragonpad pop filter: https://amzn.to/3d4svHq Podcast hosting: https://libsyn.com/  Download my free guide on Productivity Hacks I recommend by visiting https://chrisbello.com/free

Things are still looking pretty crazy with our current COVID-19 situation. Many people are finding themselves out of work or with reduced hours.  Right now, it's time to adapt. It's time to get creative. Maybe some of us will have to pivot. Maybe we'll have to try new things. No matter what, we'll all definitely have to work a lot harder. The shortcut to success - EMP144

The shortcut to success *drumroll please* is the WORK. I know, probably not what you wanted to hear. But it's the truth.  An internet entrepreneur I follow, Miles Beckler, always says that you need to expect that it's going to take 3-5 years of consistent effort before you see any noticeable results.  You may see progress sooner, but if you have the expectation that it will just take time, you'll be able to push through and continue to show up without quitting too early.  Download my free guide on Productivity Hacks I recommend by visiting https://chrisbello.com/free

Just in time versus just in case learning - EMP151

In this episode, I dive into the difference between "just in time" learning and "just in case learning."  "Just in time" stems from lean manufacturing used by Toyota. They use the "just in time" inventory approach to order parts right as they need them. This helps minimize storage costs, inventory, etc.  Similarly, utilizing just in time for learning allows you to learn information right as you need it, where as just in case learning may take up time and brain power for information you may not need any time soon if ever.  Download my free guide on Productivity Hacks I recommend by visiting https://chrisbello.com/free

This episode shares how to create and run a mastermind. I researched a few sites before recording this to see if there were any tips that aligned or slightly differed from the steps that my friend and I took when creating ours. Creating processes and checklists - EMP153

In this episode, I dive into the importance of processes and checklists. So many times, we get caught up in doing things off of memory.  It can seem like a waste of time to put things into a checklist, especially if they are seemingly simple.  However, as your business grows and life gets busier, it gets harder to remember everything. Documenting your processes ensures you have systems and place and allows you to hire or outsource work.  Download my free guide on Productivity Hacks I recommend by visiting https://chrisbello.com/free

Reminder to myself...practice gratitude DAILY - EMP155

Today's episode is about how we need to practice gratitude daily. I've spoken about gratitude before, but sometimes we need a reminder.  It's easy to focus on just the negative things, or not realize how amazing some things really are in our lives. I'm guilty of this personally. Belief is the first step - EMP156

I recently read "Zero to One" by Peter Thiel, and one quote that really stood out said that "If you think something hard is impossible, you'll never even start trying to achieve it."  Belief is the first step. A lesson from a new coaching client - EMP158

In this episode, I share a valuable lesson I learned from a new coaching client of mine (we all are able to teach and learn from each other).  The lesson was that perceived value is a huge thing. The more clients pay, the more rational they are and the less they second guess you. "Life gets easier and you make more money."  Wow. Huge takeaway! Why I am considering a personal assistant - EMP167

In this episode, I share why I'm considering a personal assistant. In my mind, I can envision being at a place where I simply send a voice message with things I'd like to get done, and then having them get done that same day.  I would like to have someone handle all the little day-to-day things that add up but aren't really key to my business (such as scheduling haircuts, ordering meal prepped food for me, etc.).  This would open me up even more to focus only on the things I love to do.  Download my free guide on Productivity Hacks I recommend by visiting https://chrisbello.com/free

Don't reinvent the wheel - EMP176

This episode warns against reinventing the wheel. Sure, you can sometimes create something entirely new and profound (and sometimes that is needed), but you don't always have to do that.  You can always "make the wheel faster" or improve something that already exists.  When you create something entirely new, you have the added hurdle of educating your potential customers on how your product or service works, and why they even need it.  Download my free guide on Productivity Hacks I recommend by visiting https://chrisbello.com/free

Priority management - EMP177

"Lack of planning on your part does NOT constitute an emergency on my part."  A lot of times, especially in a corporate role, we are given deadlines and things that are "urgent." The funny thing is that these things that are supposedly urgent could have been less so if it simply brought to your attention earlier.  Lack of planning creates unnecessary emergencies and stress. For this reason, priority management is key in ensuring problems are discovered and addressed in a timely manner.  Download my free guide on Productivity Hacks I recommend by visiting https://chrisbello.com/free

Work / life balance doesn't really exist - EMP179

Work life balance doesn't really exist. It's always a give and take. Sometimes you have to do a little more of one thing and less of another. I'm on vacation for example, and I've had several calls, texts, and emails throughout the trip that I've had to respond to since I still don't quite have a team in place to take ownership when I'm gone. Life reflection now that I'm thirty years old - EMP181

In this show, I discuss some of my life reflection now that I just turned 30.  I made a random goal a few years ago to become a millionaire by 30. It sounded cool. I'm 30, but not quite a millionaire just yet. However, it's pretty cool to say that it is my best month in real estate and the most personal income I've earned so far (so I guess I'm on the right track).  Continue to set goals and push as hard as you can, and don't get discouraged if you don't hit some. Where focus goes energy flows - EMP182

As Tony Robbins says "where focus goes energy flows." What you focus on expands.  This is why it's so important to have clarity of focus. The importance of thinking time - EMP187

Things stack up fast and our to-do list is neverending. Oftentimes, we are running from one thing to the next (or in 2020, from one Zoom call to the next). We need to literally schedule thinking time into our calendar simply to unplug and think. I’ve taken the dog on walks lately without taking my phone, which really does help. Otherwise, it’s so easy to just scroll through social media and never really take a step back to look at the big picture.  Download my free guide on Productivity Hacks I recommend by visiting https://chrisbello.com/free

Where do you want to go - EMP191

"If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there." You need to be clear on where you want to go. Once you get that clarity, you'll get a better idea of who is a leader in that industry or space. What do they teach? Who are their mentors? You can follow their outline to achieve similar success. I talk about how I did that with real estate and how I continue to seek and find role models that are in places I want to be. John has more of the traditional “educational” background.  Together, they make a great team with Michael being the visionary and “idea-man” and John being the workhorse and implementer.  They also host the MFCEO Process (being renamed to the CEO Process).  Connect with Michael and John: https://www.themfceoprocess.com/ Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisbello_  Download my free guide on Productivity Hacks I recommend by visiting https://chrisbello.com/free

Achieving success and monetizing your skills through branding with Henry Kaminski, Jr. - EMP239

In this conversation, Henry Kaminski Jr. dives into the importance of crafting your offer and understanding your ideal client (and why branding plays a huge role in that).  We also talk about when he made the shift to become an expert. He hit a point when he decided that he would no longer be the guy to make a $50 logo for clients. As Henry mentions, if you solve bigger problems, people will cut you bigger paychecks.  One of my favorite lines in this episode is as follows, and it really opens your eyes to the importance of branding in monetizing your skills or online business: “The quality of your brand will determine the quality of your clients, and the quality of your clients will determine the quality of your life.” CONNECT WITH HENRY Website: https://uniquedesignz.net/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thebranddr/  CONNECT WITH CHRIS  Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisbello_   Download my free guide on Productivity Hacks I recommend by visiting https://chrisbello.com/free
