Podcast topics include marketing, productivity, social media, website design, SEO, branding and other 'need-to-know' areas for freelancers.

S1 E1: Meet + Greet (My Freelance Story)

Hello and welcome to The Freelance Fix! In this episode I am taking the opportunity to properly introduce myself and explain a little about my background and 'freelance story'.I’ve always been interested in creating my own business. Even age 10 in Primary School I was trying to start a ‘playground’ biz selling my keyring making services to my friends. When I quit my uni course in Hospitality, I thought I wanted to work in Marketing, but I soon realised I was truly passionate about working for myself.I left my job doing marketing for a software company back in 2016, and since then have been steadily growing my website and brand design business to a place where I have a really well-balanced lifestyle that I love. This is what I talk about in more detail in this podcast episode.Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to my first ever experience of podcasting. It's a little daunting but I'm really excited to be publishing regular episodes over the next few months. Stick around for more on the topics of marketing, branding, design, productivity and freelancing!

S1 E3: Target Customer Profiling - Get to Know Who You're Serving!

There’s a reason why ‘understanding your target customer’ is the first step in pretty much any business or marketing related activity. They are the key person in your business - the hero in the story your business is telling.Did you know that in some countries, businesses are required to submit a customer profile in order to register as a legal company? Yeah, that's how important it is.WHY IS CUSTOMER PROFILING SO IMPORTANT?Without understanding who your customer is, it’s nearly impossible to communicate your business and market your products and services. Having a clear idea of your target customer, including their demographics, preferences, personality, background etc., means you can know:-What publications they read so you can advertise to them-Which social media platforms and website they spend most time on-What types of design feels familiar and attractive to them-How they like to be spoken to that makes them respond best-Which events to attend to show up and sell to them-How to tweak your products & pricing to fit them and solve their problemsIn this episode I've included tips on what your Target Customer Profile should look like, plus how to get that information and data to create one.You can download the free Target Customer CV template (with video tutorial) here:https://www.byrosanna.co.uk/blog/target-customer-cv

S2 E4: Understanding personality types (Myers Briggs & Enneagrams)

When you discover what your personality type is, you can get a better idea of your natural strengths and weaknesses, and how your personality affects the way you work. Once you realise that actually you’re someone who naturally prefers a flexible, less-structured routine, for example, then you can change the way you were to better suit your strengths. Or if you’re finding that you’re more introverted than you thought and you’re ending up exhausted at the end of the day, perhaps you could try working from home rather than being in an open plan shared space?Meanwhile with your Enneagram, it’s very much about what you’re motivated by, which can help you understand how to be more productive and what’s going to be the driver behind what you do. For me, I know I’m not motivated by power, or perfectionism, for example - what motivates me is maintaining my inner calm and leading a joyful life - which means I always analyse any opportunities to make sure that this will fit with my goals. In this episode, I'll be discusses both tests and how you can use this understanding in your business.

26 Apr 12:47

S2 E5: Morning & evening routines (improve your productivity with better sleep)

It sounds dramatic, but during sleep our bodies and brains restore themselves, and if they're not able to do that properly, a whole range of issues can occur such as...Mood swings / anxiety / depressionMicrosleeping (where you fall asleep without realising - extremely dangerous if you are driving!)Your immune system won't have time to rebuild which will leave you vulnerable to more illnessIt is easier to become overweight as your hunger/fullness hormones are affected by sleepHigher risk of Type 2 Diabetes due to higher levels of insulin in sleep depravationCardiovascular and blood pressure risksScary, right? As you can see, lack of sleep isn't just a productivity issue. Yes, sleep depravation will reduce your functions and make you far less productive, and have a negative effect on your work, but for some reason this isn't enough reason for many people to treat it seriously! In this podcast I'm sharing my best tips for a relaxing night time routine and high quality sleep.

S3 E5: Increasing customer spend & 'upselling'

We all want to make more money in our businesses, but 'getting more customers' as we all know, is easier said than done! It takes huge amounts of effort and testing different marketing strategies to get new customers and through the door, and sometimes even if we are getting the clients, there's a limit to how many more we can physically take on and say yes to, especially when starting small and a solo business owner. But there is an easier way; a way to make more money but from the same amount if not fewer customers. Increase the average spend per customer, and get more VALUE per sale.More ideas for converting ecommerce customers: https://www.byrosanna.co.uk/blog/convert-ecommerce-websiteRead the transcript at: https://www.byrosanna.co.uk/podcast/customer-spend-upselling

And while you may not be able to relate quite to that extent, I have a feeling you have probably at some point in your business experienced the feeling of being in some kind of rut or slump. It happens - but does it mean we have to scrap everything and start completely over again? Not always. In this episode, I'm sharing my experience with losing the passion for my business a few years ago, and my tips for if this happens to you too.

26 Apr 12:46

S3 E7: Should you separate business from personal? Or split in two for your audiences?

A lot of us find it hard to draw the boundaries between what we should share online as a business, vs. how much of our personal lives we should share in the name of being authentic and building a personal connection. Both Olivia and I come at this from different perspectives; Olivia has one Instagram account for her business and personal content, but has a strong boundary of what personal stuff to share. Whereas I have two Instagram accounts and go more personal on my personal one... We discuss this, plus whether you should split out your business if you have two different target audiences too.
